SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– The Drury men's tennis opens the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament tomorrow against Southern Indiana in Indianapolis, Indiana. The threat of inclement weather has shuffled the venues and start times of the tournament's opening round, and Drury's match against the Screaming Eagles will take place on the indoor courts of the University of Indianapolis Tennis Center at 12:30 pm (Central).
The Panthers are the top seed from the West Division having gone 6-0 in the league in during the regular season and 13-4 overall. Southern Indiana finished fourth in the East Division and went 10-12 with a 2-3 mark in the league.
The winner of Friday's match will advance to the league semifinals on Saturday and play the winner of Lewis, the second seed from East, against Maryville, the third-place team from the West Division. Saturday's semifinals will be played at noon (Central) on the indoor courts of the UIndy Tennis Center.
The other quarterfinals match-ups on Friday include 24th ranked Indianapolis, the regular season East Division champion, against Rockhurst, the fourth seed from the West, and Missouri-St. Louis, the second-place team from West, vs. Illinois Springfield, the East Division's number three seed.
The championship match is scheduled for noon (Central) at Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Indiana.
The Panthers were the tournament runner-up last year and have won the league title seven times since joining the GLVC in 2006. This year's match format has changed to a best-of-seven event with one point awarded for winning two out of three doubles matches, and one point for each win in the six singles pairings.
