Panthers advance to GLVC championship with a 4-1 win over Lewis

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- Drury got past Lewis 4-1 in the semifinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament on Saturday at the University of Indianapolis Tennis Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Panthers will play 24th ranked Indianapolis for the GLVC title on Sunday at 1:30 pm (Central) at Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Indiana.

While Drury won their semifinal match 4-1, it did not come easy. Lewis, the second-place finisher in the East Division, took a 1-0 lead after winning two of the three doubles matches. The Flyers clinched the point as David Ambrozic and Brandan Peterson battled Augustin Diot and Paul Porcher through a 7-6 (7-4) tie-breaker win.

The Panthers won four straight singles matches to advance but not before Nico Hadeler, earlier this week named the GLVC Player of the Year, had to battle from a set down to win his match-up against Alan Braschinsky. Hadeler lost the opening set 6-2, then took the second set 6-3 before edging Braschinsky 7-5 in the third.

Drury's number two singles player, Augustin Diot also lost his first set but rallied to defeat Oskar Lusti 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. Gregor Kokalj cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over David Ambrozic, and Lukas Stierling clinched the win for Drury defeating Brandan Peterson 6-3, 6-2.

The Panthers, the top seed out of the West Division, advanced to the championship with a record of 15-4 while dropping Lewis to 11-5.

Drury and Indianapolis will play for the conference championship for the third straight year. The Greyhounds won both of those tournament championship matches, and the Panthers will be seeking their first postseason GLVC title since 2015 when the defeated UIndy 5-4 in the finals.

Indianapolis advanced to the championship match with a 4-0 win over Missouri-St. Louis in the semifinals and they defeated Rockhurst 4-0 in the quarterfinals on Friday.
