KANEOHE, Hawaii - The Drury baseball Panthers earned a non-conference split, winning the opener 9-7 before falling 2-1 in the nightcap at Hawaii Pacific on Saturday.

In the opener, Drury scored runs in each of the first three innings for a 3-0 lead before the Sharks matched the score with three runs in the bottom half of the third frame. Both teams traded runs in the fourth and fifth innings to remain knotted up at 5-5 after five innings. After holding Drury off the board in the sixth Hawaii Pacific edged back on top 6-5 with a sacrifice fly.
Jacob Mitchell would put the Panthers on top with a RBI double in the seventh frame to plate
Clayton Engel and
Brant Schaffitzel and make it 7-6 Panthers. Â Hawaii Pacific added their final run in the eighth to tie it up 7-7, but Drury would capture the win in the ninth inning when
Aaron Mann singled to score
Will Sachs and put DU on top and a Sharks passed ball allowed Engel to cross for the final DU tally.
Bayler Hinz (1-0) got the win in 1.1 innings of action to close out the game. Mann went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and scored a run and Schaffitzel went 2-for-3 and scored twice.
In the nightcap, the Panthers scored first in the second inning when a
DJ McNew single scored Hinz. The Sharks tied it up in the third on an RBI single and claimed the win on a wild pitch that allowed a run to score in the sixth frame.
Evan Spitzer (1-0) went the distance for the win for Hawaii Pacific and allowed just three Panther hits.Â
Andrew Hastings (0-1) suffered the loss and had six strikeouts in six innings.
The two teams will conclude their five game series tomorrow at 5 p.m. (CST).
