Three DU women's indoor track & field records fall at Northwest Open

MARYVILLE, Mo.– The Drury women's indoor track & field team broke three school records, two of them coming from freshman Ashley Childers, at the Northwest Open hosted by Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Missouri, on Saturday.
 
Childers, who made her collegiate debut with the Panthers last weekend, won the 200-meter dash and set a program record with a time of 25.87. The Ozark, Arkansas, native also set a team record and had a 10th place finish in the 60-meter dash with a sprint of 7.94 seconds.
 
Imani Brown also set a Drury record as she finished 12th among 33 runners in the 400-meter dash. The freshman from Munster, Indiana, became the first DU women's runner ever to break 60-seconds in the 400 meters as she completed the race in 59.87 seconds.
 
Another of Drury's top women's finishers on Saturday was Maddie Bennett, who finished 13th in the mile with a time of 5:39.48.
 
John Schupbach gave the Drury men's team their best performance finishing sixth in the triple jump. The junior from Monett, Missouri, posted a 12.99 meters (42'07.05"). He was also 16th in the long jump (6.06 meters, 19'10.75"), a mark that is third-best in program history.
 
Samuel Walker came in 24th among 39 runners in the 400-meter dash. The sophomore from St. Louis now ranks fourth all-time at Drury with a time of 52.29.
 
Luke Kershaw was 12th in a field of 35 runners in the mile as he completed the event in 4:32.53. 
 
Both Drury track & field teams return to Maryville next Saturday for the Herschel Neil Invitational hosted by Northwest Missouri State.
