Washburn edges Drury 4-3

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.- Washburn edged Drury 4-3 in the Panthers season opener on Sunday at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.
 
Drury fell behind 1-0 when the Ichabods won all three doubles matches.
 
The Panthers won singles matches with their top three players, including Nastasia Jedrychowski's 6-3, 6-2 win over Svea Crohn in the number one position. Alma Abazi and Viktoria Zheleva both went three sets but prevailed.
 
The match came down to the number six singles battle, and Cadence Lynn gave Washburn the victory with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 win over Madeline Schneider.
 
The Panthers dropped to 0-1 while Washburn starts their season with a 1-0 record.
 
Drury's originally scheduled opener against Washington (Mo.) on Saturday was postponed to April 4. The Panthers return to the court Friday when they host Harding at 8 pm at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
