BELLEVILLE, Ill.— Upper Iowa ended Drury's women's bowling season as the Peacocks downed the Panthers 2-1 in a best-of-three elimination round on Saturday at the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship tournament at the Bel-Air Bowl in Belleville, Illinois.
Drury, seeded fourth in the tournament, took a 1-0 lead after winning the Traditional game 872-853.
Madison Smith led the Panthers with a 200 in the round. Upper Iowa, the sixth seed on the bracket, evened the series, outscoring Drury 214-155 in the Baker Format to force a best-of-seven Baker series. The Panthers owned a 3-2 lead and had the Peacocks on the brink of elimination, but Upper Iowa rallied for a pair of wins to advance.
Drury opened the tournament with a 2-0 win over fifth-seeded Lewis on Friday, then lost to top seed, and number one ranked McKendree in the semifinals sending the Panthers to the consolation bracket in the double-elimination event.
This weekend's event is the first-ever GLVC bowling championship. The pandemic canceled last year's postseason in the inaugural season of bowling in the conference. Before the 2019-20 season, Drury was a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association member in women's bowling.
