Ashley Childers, Tracy Gates set team records at Vernon Kennedy Invitational

WARRENSBURG, Mo.– Ashley Childers from the women's track & field team and Tracy Gates from the men's squad set team records at the Vernon Kennedy Invitational hosted by the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg on Saturday. The event was Drury's sixth outdoor meet of the season.
 
Women's Highlights
Ashley Childers set a team record in the 100-meter dash. The freshman from Ozark, Arkansas, finished third with a program-best time of 12.36. Drury's Jacy Rule was eighth in the event with a time of 12.79.
 
Rule returned in the 200-meter dash and finished eighth again, posting a time of 25.78.
 
The Panthers were third and fourth in the 400-meter hurdles as Lauren Shipley came in third (1:05.56), while Libby Brown was just behind her with a time of 1:05.91.
 
Anne Wagner finished sixth in the long jump posting a leap of 5.11 meters.
 
Men's Highlights
Tracy Gates, a sophomore from Waynesville, set a program record in the long jump. He came in third place in the event at 7.01 meters. John Schupbach came in seventh with a personal-best 6.29 meters.
 
Luke Kerr gave the Panthers a fourth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles and his time of 15.93 is the second-best mark in team history.
 
Jeremiah Ellison was 10th in the 400-meter dash (52.53), while Matthew Chancia was 11th (53.15.).
 
The Drury track & field teams compete again in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships May 7-9 in Rolla, Missouri.
