ROLLA, Mo.– The Drury women's track & field team had their best finish in eight years at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships in Rolla, Missouri, on Saturday, and DU's men's and women's teams combined to set four school records.
Lewis won the women's championship with 215.5 points, while Southwest Baptist was second (139), and Indianapolis was third with 114 points. Drury's total of 37 points had them finish in seventh place, matching their best finish at the GLVC Championship since 2013.
Missouri S&T won the men's title with 175 points. Indianapolis came in second (115), and Lewis finished third (96.5). The Panthers men's team had a total of 12 points and came in 12
th.
Women's Highlights
Lauren Shipley placed the highest of any of Drury's competitors on Saturday as the senior from Adrian, Missouri, was second in the 400-meter hurdles. Shipley posted a time of 1:03.45 and was just 0.96 seconds off of the winning pace.
Shipley was also part of two Drury relay teams that set school records. Drury's 4x100 meter relay team finished fourth as Shipley,
Haley Johnson,
Jacy Rule, and
Ashley Childers combined for a time of 48.40, a new program record.
Drury's 4x400 relay team came in third and also set a new team mark as Shipley,
Imani Brown, Rule, and Childers ran the event in 3:56.81. Earlier this year, the same four established Drury's mark by breaking the previous record by more than 15 seconds.
Ashley Childers placed in two other events for the Panthers. The freshman from Ozark, Arkansas, broke Drury's record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.92 and finished fourth. She returned for the 200-meter dash and was sixth, crossing the finish line in 24.93.
Imani Brown was 3
rd in the high jump clearing 1.65 meters, while
Valerie Daehler was eighth at 1.55 meters.
Brown also picked up points for the Panthers in the 400-meter dash as she came in seventh with a time of 58.75.
Daehler returned for the triple jump and had a personal best leap of 11.05 meters, second-best all-time at Drury, and good for 10
th place at the GLVC Championship.
Jolie McClellan also earned points for Drury as she came in eighth in the javelin with a throw of 36.27 meters.
Men's Highlights
Liam Lynch turned in a fifth-place performance in the 400-meter hurdles and was Drury's best finisher on the men's team. The junior from Springfield (Kickapoo HS) ran a personal best 55.62, establishing the third-best time in team history.
The Panthers had a 6-7 finish in the 1500-meter run.
Matt Moler came in sixth with a time of 3:56.59. The time was a personal best for the junior from Midwest City, Oklahoma, and was the fourth-fastest time ever at Drury.
William Kershaw was right behind Moler to finish seventh (3:57.92).
Drury's
John Schupbach set a team record for the Panthers in the triple jump with a mark of 13.57 meters. The junior from Monett came in 12
th in the event.
Trevor Johnson also picked up points for Drury as the DeSoto, Missouri native, finished in seventh place in the 200-meter dash posting a time of 22.45.
