The Drury Dozen is an annual list of our favorite moments of the year from Drury Athletics. The list is not necessarily the most significant events but the special games and moments we'll always associate with 2021-22.
Â
We'll provide honorable mention selections later in the countdown, but, for now, here is our second entry from 2021-22:
Â
#11 – Kristina Bettis fires no-hitter at Rockhurst
Â
March 14, 2022 – Kansas City, Mo.
Drury softball pitcher
Kristina Bettis had already put the Great Lakes Valley Conference on notice that there was a new force to be reckoned with in the league and a new contender in the conference. Bettis was the GLVC Pitcher of the Week for the previous two weeks going into a March 14 start in Kansas City against Rockhurst, and her outing that afternoon would virtually cinch her winning the award for a third straight week.
Â
In game one of a doubleheader, Bettis fired Drury's first no-hitter in 11 years and the second one in program history. She allowed just one walk and struck out six through seven innings while the Hawks managed just one base-runner in a 7-0 win for the Panthers.
Â
The game was one of several highlights that sent Bettis on her way to being named the GLVC and Midwest Region Pitcher of the Year, marking the first time Drury has had a player win either award. Â Â Â
