Drury's NCAA-II Tournament run ends against 2nd ranked Nova Southeastern

ORLANDO, Fla.— Drury's run through the NCAA-II Tournament was halted in the third round as the Panthers ran into second-ranked Nova Southeastern, who earned a 4-0 win at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, on Friday night.
 
The Panthers, seeded 15th, ended their season with a 17-6 record, while Nova Southeastern advances to the national quarterfinals with a 24-3 mark.
 
Drury fell behind 1-0 after the Sharks picked up two wins in the doubles round. Nova Southeastern's top doubles pair of Natalie Espinal and Fatima Bizhukova are ranked number one in NCAA-II and got past Drury's Kseniia Eremina and Ewa Samberger 6-3 to clinch the doubles point. Drury's Maria Fernanda Da la Torre Ugarte Espejo and Clara Kuehnle had a 5-4 lead in their doubles match when Nova Southeastern clinched the point to stop play.
 
The Sharks got three singles wins to close out the match. Julie Razafindranaly, ranked 10th nationally, defeated Nastasia Jedrychowski in the number one match-up, 6-2, 6-0. 14th ranked Natalie Espinal snapped Clara Kuehnle's 15-match winning streak with a 6-0, 6-4 win. Fatima Bizhukova got the Sharks other win with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Alma Abazi.
 
Nova Southeastern will play Columbus State in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
 
Drury was making their first appearance in the third round of the NCAA-II Tournament since 2018 and were playing in their 24th NCAA-II Tournament in program history.
