SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Rockhurst defeated Drury 4-3 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament semifinal match decided by the last two singles players standing on Saturday at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.
 
The Panthers fell to 13-7 while the Hawks, the third seed in the West Division, advanced to the conference championship with a 17-7 record. The loss was Drury's first this year to a divisional opponent. Rockhurst avenged a 4-3 loss to the Panthers on April 12 in Springfield.
 
The doubles point went to the Panthers as Drury won two of the three matches. In a preview of how tightly contested the round would be, the Panthers clinched the point with their number two as Maria Fernanda De la Torre Ugarte Espejo and Antanina Novik battled to a 7-5 win over Ella Coleman and Zuzanna Szmyd.
 
Drury got a singles win from Leana Chanove, 6-2, 6-1 to take a 2-1 lead. But GLVC Player of the year Ella Coleman, ranked 21^st nationally, pulled the Hawks even with a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Ewa Samberger.
 
Espejo tied the match at 3-3 with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Szmyd, pushing the deciding point to the number five singles match-up. Dani Lentisco got a three-set win, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 to send the Hawks to the championship round.
 
Rockhurst will play Indianapolis on Sunday at noon in the GLVC championship match at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
