SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Drury senior
Yaroslav Sharyy was named the Midwest Region Senior Player of the Year in men's tennis by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
The award is the latest for the native of Moscow, Russia, who was also named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year and a First Team All-GLVC selection this spring. Sharyy also won Drury's Dr. Edsel Matthews Award, the highest honor given to a graduating student-athlete representing excellence in athletics and academics. He was also named an Academic All-District selection and is an Academic All-America nominee.
Sharyy went 15-2 for the Panthers during the spring season, playing exclusively in Drury's number one singles position. He went 3-1 against nationally ranked opponents and ended the year ranked 28
th in Division II singles. With doubles partner
Lukas Rieber, Sharyy was also 15-2 in doubles and the duo went 2-0 against top 50 doubles teams. Sharyy and Rieber were ranked 22
nd nationally at the end of the season.
Sharyy's award marks the second time in three years a Drury men's player has won the Senior Midwest Region Player of the Year.
Sylvain Garin-Michaud won the honor in 2023.
The Panthers went 13-6 and reached the NCAA-II Tournament for the third straight season and for the 25
th time in program history.
