SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Drury women's golf opened the Dan Salisbury Invitational hosted by the University of Illinois Springfield on Monday. The Panthers finished the first day in fourth place with a +76.
The Panthers shot a +39 in the first round, led by
Grace Stafford and
Jade Carter, who both shot eight over in the first 18 holes. Stafford improved in her second-round shooting two-over par, including three birdies.
Stafford led Drury, ending the first two rounds in fifth place. Carter finished the first day five spots behind Stafford with a +18.
Meanwhile, McKendree's Alba Camps finished the first day in first place, shooting three-over. As a team, McKendree (+52) leads host Illinois Springfield (+58) by six strokes.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Notably, Grace Stafford's second round 74 is tied for the best round of any Panther so far this season.
- Additionally, Stafford led the field on the first day in average strokes on par fours, averaging 4.1. Jade Carter is seventh in that category entering day two with a 4.45.
- Stafford recorded six birdies in the first 36 holes, second most in the tournament behind the leader, Alba Camps.
- Freshman Chloe Wills, first round 81 ,ties her best round of her college career.
