EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Despite valiant efforts and battling eventual dual champion Indianapolis down to the wire, Drury's men's and women's swimming and diving squads finished second at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday at Deaconess Aquatic Center.

Drury posted a strong final day that included Alvaro Zornoza's GLVC Championship record-breaking time of 1:42.67 in the 200 back and relay wins for both the men and women in the 400 free relay to cap a strong week in Evansville.

Indianapolis swept both the men's and women's team titles, with the Greyhounds (1853.50) edging the DU men (1632) by 221.5 points, while the UIndy (1882) women pulled off a narrow 32-point victory over the Panthers (1850) to unseat the defending GLVC champs.

The highlight of the evening for Drury was the 1-2 finish for the Panthers in the 200 back, with not only Zornoza's time eclipsing Patryk Rozenek's GLVC mark of 1:43.04, but also silver-medalist Ivan Adamchuk's 1:43.01 surpassing the previous record by the slimmest of margins. Max Hagl (1:46.73) delivered a strong performance for DU as well, placing seventh.

Drury also turned in strong efforts in sweeping the two (400 free) relay events, with the women's team consisting of Belen Morales, Nikol Maniko, Whitney Stortz and Ashlyn Moore posting a victorious time of 3:20.93, just missing the GLVC Championship record by 0.23 of a second. Likewise, the DU men cruised to a win in the same event, with Marwane Sebbata, Yuri Cabral, Lucas Mineur and Matteo Vissotto turning in a time of 2:53.35.

Other notable performances included the women's effort in the 100 free, with Moore (50.12) taking silver, followed by Morales (50.64) in third and Stortz (56.54) in fifth. The DU men also registered a dominant effort in the 100 free, with Sebbata (43.58) placing second, Cabral (43.96) finishing fifth, Mineur (44.10) taking sixth and Vissotto (44.21) coming in 8th.

Additionally, Maria Fe Munoz's second-place time of 1:59.43 in the 200 back led a contingent of three Panthers placing in the top seven swimmers in that event. Sophia Deane (2:01.31) finished fifth, while Maniko came through with a seventh-place time of 2:02.70.

In the 200 breast, Gwen Bergum led the women with a second-place showing, while Ella Gunnarsson (2:17.63) placed fifth. On the men's side of the competition, Joao Nogueira (1:58.90) paced the DU contingent with a fourth-place finish.

DU also scored with Colby Hughes' sixth-place finish in the 1650 free, while Carter Austin wrapped up a solid week in Evansville by taking second in the men's 3-meter diving competition with a 563.40 total.

After UIndy and Drury claimed the top two spots in the men's standings, McKendree (1365) secured the third position, followed by Missouri S&T (801) and Quincy (660) to round out the top five. On the women's side, UMSL (918) placed third, with Lewis (843.50) claiming fourth and McKendree (813.50) taking fifth.
