Drury roared back from an early deficit to down Missouri-St. Louis 3-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference volleyball action Friday night at Weiser Gym.
The Panthers' fifth straight victory pushed their overall mark to 12-2, their best start ever at the NCAA-II level and best through 14 games in 27 years, since the '88 DU squad opened 13-1 as an NAIA member. It was also the 20th win in their last 25 matches for DU dating back to the middle of last season under now second-year coach
Jenifer Bahner.
Drury dropped the opening set 26-24, but won the last three by scores of 26-24, 25-19 and 25-15.
The second set was pivotal, as the Panthers led 15-7 at one point, watched the Tritons storm back to take a 24-23 lead, and then scored the final three points to knot the match at 1 and pick up the last two sets for the victory, which pushed the Panthers to 4-1 in the GLVC.
Drury trailed 13-10 in the fourth set, but scored 12 consecutive points to seize command and snag the win.
BJ Specht had 17 kills and
Chloe Foster added 12 kills and six blocks for the Panthers, who got 46 assists, six blocks and 20 digs from
Brooke Antenen.
McKenna Poynter added 19 digs, one of five DU players to reach double-figures in the category.
