KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Drury volleyball Panthers recorded 26 block assists, just two shy of the school record in route to a 3-0 sweep over Bentley and then swept Lubbock Christian 3-0 at the Emerald Beach Hotel Javelina Invitational on Friday.
Drury improved to 5-1, Bentley fell to 1-4 and Lubbock Christian is now 4-2.
Drury cruised in each of their set victories today winning over Bentley by scores of 25-15, 25-13 and 25-14 in a match that took just an hour and 11 minutes. For the match Drury hit .250 while Bentley hit -.143. Drury posted 26 block assists, just two shy of the school record set on October 16, 1999 vs. Valdosta State.
Brooke Antenen and
Laynie Timmons each recorded a team-high six block assists. Antenen added 20 assists and 11 digs.
BJ Specht led DU with 10 kills and posted a .391 hitting percentage and Antenen and Timmons each added seven kills.
McKenna Poynter had a team high 17 digs. Lauren Van Buren had a team high eight kills for Bentley.
Drury downed Lubbock Christian by scores of 25-21, 25-15 and 25-18. Both teams struggled at the net with Drury finishing with just a .164 hitting percentage and Lubbock wrapping up with a .076 mark.
Specht had a season high 21 digs and added four serving aces to go along with nine kills and paced the Panthers. Antenen had 24 assists and added nine kills with seven digs.
Mary Maerz had a season high eight kills and Timmons added eight kills and had a team high six block assists.
The Drury Volleyball Panthers will continue play at the Emerald Beach Hotel Javelina Invitational when they take on the host Texas A&M-Kingsville tomorrow at 10 a.m. and conclude with a 4:30 match vs. St. Mary's.
