KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Drury volleyball Panthers went 4-0 at the Emerald Beach Hotel Javelina Invitational posting a pair of 3-0 wins over host Texas A&M-Kingsville and St. Mary's here on Saturday.
Drury improved to 7-1, Kingsville is now 4-3 and St. Mary's fell to 2-6. The Panthers claimed their win over Kingsville by match scores of 25-15, 25-20 and 25-17.
BJ Specht, who earned Tournament MVP honors, hit .333 with 16 kills and 11 digs to lead the Panthers.
Brooke Antenen, also named to the All-Tournament team, had six serving aces and added 27 assists with nine digs.
McKenna Poynter led DU with 20 digs and
Chloe Foster added six kills and hit .300. Drury finished with a .279 hitting percentage and Kingsville managed only a .161 hitting percentage.
In the nightcap, Drury downed St. Mary's by match scores of 25-22, 25-19 and 28-26. Antenen led the Panthers with 15 kills and had 29 assists and 13 digs. Specht had 10 kills and 13 digs with Poynter leading DU with 20 digs.
Chloe Foster added four block assists and seven kills. Drury posted a 53-37 advantage on kills and hit .231 while St. Mary's finished at .203.
Drury claimed the tournament title with the best record at 4-0 at the Emerald Beach Hotel Javelina Invitational.
Drury will open Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Friday when they will travel to Lewis for a 7 p.m. match.
