Bowling announces 2016-17 schedule

Women's enters first season of NCAA competition

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury University Athletics has announced their 2016-17 bowling schedule. The women's bowling program will be competing at the NCAA level for the first time as well as the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The Panthers open the season at the Mid-States Classic on Oct. 8 and 9 in Wichita, Kansas in an event hosted by Wichita State and Newman University.

Drury will host their first tournament on Oct. 22 and 23 with the Andy B's Baker Challenge. The event will feature at least 10 teams competing from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22 and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday the 23rd.

The schedule features events hosted by major universities with road trips to Kansas University, Nov. 5-6, Indiana University on Feb. 11-12, Nebraska, March 3-5 and Vanderbilt, March 17-19.

Drury will compete in the MIAA Tournament held in Kansas City, Missouri March 25-26.

"This is a very tough schedule for a new program as the NCAA tournaments we are attending will have 2015 national champion Nebraska and perennial top 5 programs in Arkansas State, Vanderbilt in addition to MIAA members Central Missouri and McKendree," said head coach Larry Hughes. "This will provide great exposure and opportunity for these girls to understand the competitiveness of NCAA competition."

The men's bowling team will compete this season as a non-NCAA sport. Their schedule includes seven events and they also will host their tournament on Oct. 22-23 at Andy B's in Springfield. The men's season begins at the Mid-States Classic in Wichita, Kan. On Oct. 8-9.
