ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The Drury women's tennis team fell to second ranked and undefeated Barry (Fla.) 5-0 in the third round of the NCAA-II national tournament on Wednesday in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
The Panthers, ranked 14
th in the nation, ended their season with a 22-4 record and were in the round of 16 at the national tournament for the fifth time in six years. Barry advanced to the quarterfinals and maintained their perfect record as they went to 27-0.
The Buccaneers won all three doubles matches with the closest of the three coming from
Lara Muller and
JiaQing Mo's 8-4 loss to Zuza Maciejewska and Dasha Salnikova.
Verena Schmid picked up a point for Barry in her 6-3, 6-0 win over
Chung-Yen Huang and the Buccaneers clinched their tournament win as Isabel Rapisarda defeated
JiaQing Mo 6-1, 6-2.
Elizaveta Tregubova was the lone Drury player to win a set taking the opening set from Sonja Larsen 7-6. That pairing was unfinished as Barry clinched a match win before it could be finished.
Drury's 22 wins matched their second highest win total in program history. This year was their 17
th straight trip to the NCAA-II national tournament and their ninth appearance in the round of 16.
