Claire McCune finishes 4th in mile, Ryan Way 5th in 3,000 meter run at GLVC indoor championship

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– Ryan Way and Chaaz Ferguson-Cooper both picked up points while three different Drury women's athletes placed on the second day of competition at the Great Lakes Valley Conference indoor track & field championships in Indianapolis, Indiana on Sunday.
 
In the men's event, Ryan Way finished fifth in the 3,000-meter run and had the third best time in program history completing the race in 8:42.77. The senior from Republic posted a personal best time by five seconds. Chaaz Ferguson-Cooper was seventh in the 400 meter dash finishing with a time of 51.43.
 
Brady Waters was 14th in the high jump as he cleared 5'11".25, and he was 17th in the triple jump with a distance of 39'05".25. Brendan Bena came in 15th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:01.54.
 
Claire McCune led the women's team on Sunday with a fourth-place finish in the mile. The freshman from Springfield broke her own school record in the event completing the run in 5:09.74. Johnna McGlaughlin finished 14th in the mile with a time of 5:22.26.
 
Katie McCune was sixth in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:20.11. Her time is the second fastest mark in program history.
 
Angela Wadley also provided points for the Drury women's team as she placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 38'11".50. The distance is the second-best mark at Drury.
 
Felicia Sheil was 12th in the triple jump (31'04".50), and Lydia Alipio was 18th in the 800 run (2:26.10).
 
"We had a great weekend," said Drury track & field head coach Jamie Moreno. "Two years we only brought a couple of athletes here, and we didn't get any points. This year, we accumulated points, but we were also competing to win some events."
 
The Drury women's team finished tied for ninth in the meet. Bellarmine won the women's indoor championship while Indianapolis won the men's title with 133.5 points. The Panthers men's team came in 11th.
