SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Drury women's tennis team received the number one seed in the NCAA-II Midwest Region will host the opening two rounds of the national tournament on Saturday, April 28 and Sunday, April 29 at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.
The Panthers earned an automatic bid after winning the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship last weekend in a 5-2 win against the University of Missouri-St. Louis in the tournament finals. Drury is ranked 18th in the nation and is 18-1.
The Panthers have a first round bye and will play the winner of Saturday's opening round played between fourth-seeded Bellarmine (21-3) and number five seed Indianapolis (15-6).
Sunday's second round match starts at 4 p.m.
The winner of Sunday's match will advance to the NCAA-II championship site. The 16 teams that win at each regional site will play the next four rounds May 8-11 in Surprise, Arizona.
Drury is in the national tournament for the 17th consecutive year and last year advanced to the round of 16.
