SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Drury women's tennis team will play the top ranked team in NCAA-II on Tuesday as they face Barry (Fla.) in the third round of the national championship tournament in Surprise, Arizona. The match begins at 2 p.m. (central) at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex.
The Panthers are 19-1 and ranked 12
th in the latest national poll. Drury advanced to the third round with a 5-1 win over Indianapolis on April 29 in the Midwest Regional.
Barry is 24-0 and advanced out of the South Regional with a 5-1 win over eighth-ranked Saint Leo. The Buccaneers won the national championship last year and faced Drury in the same round on their way to the title defeating the Panthers 5-0.
The winner of Tuesday's match will advance to the national quarterfinals on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and face the winner of ninth-ranked Academy of Art and Concordia (NY).
The semifinals are scheduled for Thursday, and the championship is on Friday.
The Panthers are playing in their 17
th consecutive national tournament and are in the round-of-16 for the third straight season.
