SURPRISE, Ariz.– Number one ranked Barry ended Drury's season on Tuesday with a 5-0 win over the Panthers in the third round of the NCAA-II national tournament at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex in Surprise, Arizona.
Barry swept the doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead. Drury's top tandem of Chung-Yen Huang and JiaQing Mo managed to play the Buccaneers lead doubles squad and the top-ranked doubles team in the nation close in an 8-6 loss.
Julia Schepp had to retire against her singles opponent during the first set, and Barry's Carolin Schmidt clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Josephine Jedrychowski.
The Buccaneers advance to the quarterfinals with a 25-0 record.
The Panthers, ranked 12th nationally, end their season with a 19-2 mark. Drury was playing in the national tournament for the 17th consecutive season and was in the round of 16 for the third straight year.
