During the next several weeks, Drury Athletics will reveal the Drury Dozen – over favorite 12 moments from the 2018-19 sports season. The list was voted on by members of the Drury University athletics staff and others that covered DU Athletics.
The list on this countdown does not reflect the most significant moments from the year, although the magnitude of the game or event certainly played a part in our decision.
Ultimately, these were our
favorite moments from the previous year and the ones that we will likely always associate with the 2018-19 Drury sports season.
#8 – Softball wins their first-ever postseason games
In
Jerry Breaux's second season as head coach, the Drury softball team earned their first trip to the GLVC tournament in seven years, and once there, they won their first postseason games in program history. The Panthers actually won two games in the tournament, eliminated defending national champion Southern Indiana from the bracket, and were one of three teams left standing on the final day of the event.
After an opening-round loss to Indianapolis, Drury knocked the Screaming Eagles out of the tournament with an 8-0 win in five innings.
The Panthers stayed alive in the next round holding Illinois Springfield to one hit in a 1-0 victory over the Prairie Stars before Truman State ended Drury's postseason run.
Their wins in the GLVC tournament, though, lifted Drury's final record to 36-23 with 36 wins matching a program record.
