INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– Drury sprinter
Trevor Johnson set a school record and finished third in the 200-meter dash during the second and final day of competition at the Great Lakes Valley Conference indoor track & field championships in Indianapolis, Indiana on Sunday.
Johnson, a sophomore from DeSoto, Missouri, put up a time of 22.43 seconds, beating the previous Drury mark by 0.51 seconds.
"Trevor had a really good performance on Sunday," said Drury head coach
Kyle Gibson. "He showed up when it counted, set a team record, and earned a medal."
Middle distance runner
Matt Moler earned points in two events on Sunday, finishing fifth in the mile and sixth in the 800-meter run. The sophomore from Midwest City, Oklahoma, finished the mile in 4:24.71. He then posted the second-fastest time in school history in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.65.
"Matt a really good weekend," noted Gibson. "Our whole Distance Medley Relay team showed up and put us in contention to win on Saturday. Matt was able to close a gap, and we were just a little short at the end. Then he came back with two good performances on Sunday."
The Panthers 4x400 relay team had a seventh-place finish and established a team record.

Jeremiah Ellison completed the event in 3:29.74.
Drury's
Byron King had the second-longest throw in team history and was 17th in the shot put with a toss of 12.57 meters.
Brendan Bena was 10th in the mile (4:27.87),
John Schupbach was 11th in the triple jump (13.17), and
Sean Lowry was 18th in the 3000-meter run with a time of 9:06.94.
In the women's event,
Katie McCune earned points in her second event of the championships with a seven-place finish in the 3000-meter run. The junior from Springfield had a time of 10:17.67.
"Katie put up a personal best in the 5-k on Saturday and ran that pretty much by herself," said Gibson. "Then she was able to come back the next day and give us points again in the 3,000."
Shelby Myers was 16th in the shot put, and her throw of 10.84 meters ranks second at Drury all-time.
Allison Pell was 19th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:28.35, the seventh-best mark ever at Drury.
The Drury men's team came in 12th at the indoor championships. Missouri S&T won the men's championship with 108 points while Indianapolis was second with 79.5 points, and Southwest Baptist was third (71).
Drury's women's team was also 12th in the GLVC meet while Lewis earned the title with 141 points, Southwest Baptist was second (128), and Indianapolis (125.5) finished third.
"We return about everybody, and it's going to be exciting to bring in next year's class with this group," stated Gibson, who is in his first season as Drury's track & field head coach. "The experience this group gained at the GLVC championships will be important moving forward as they'll be able to mentor the newcomers as they develop and get better themselves."
