GLVC Tennis Championships Official WebsiteKANSAS CITY - Drury placed five players on the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference team and had coach
Jarrod Smith named the GLVC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year in ceremonies Thursday night prior to the start of this weekend's GLVC Men's and Women's Tennis Championships.
Senior
Stefanie Monsch, junior
Hadeil Ali and sophomore
Lara Muller from the DU women's team joined men's counterparts
Maximilian Hepp, a sophomore, and freshman
Sebastien Amato on the 16-member All-GLVC squads.
Drury, after going undefeated in GLVC regular season play (women 6-0, men 5-0), will enter the three-day championships at three Kansas City sites as the No. 1 West Division seed in both the men's and women's competitions and will be attempting to repeat as champions on both sides as well.
The DU women (19-1) will face East No. 4 seed Southern Indiana at 9 a.m. Friday at the Overland Park Racquet Club, where the DU men (18-1) will take on East fourth-seed McKendree at noon. Semifinals are set for Saturday at 9 a.m. (women) and noon (men) with Sunday's championship matches at 9 a.m. (women) and noon (men), all the last two days at the Plaza Tennis Center in downtown KC.
Monsch earned All-GLVC honors for the fourth time in her four-year DU career, while Ali was named for the second straight year, as were Mueller and Hepp.
Smith's GLVC Men's Coach of the Year award was his sixth overall with the DU program and second with the men, the other coming in 2013. He would also claim the women's Coach of the Year distinction this year if the Panthers repeat as champions, as the league coaches voted that the award in 2015 will go to the coach of the women's tourney winner.
Indianapolis sophomore Stephanie Hirsch was named the women's Player of the Year and Illinois Springfield's Jane Carter the Freshman of the Year, while the men's major honors went to Lewis senior Armand Levandi (Player of the Year) and Christoph Dreschler of Indianapolis (Freshman of the Year).
