Drury Dozen- the top 12 moment's of '18-19: #7- DU baseball's rally in the NCAA regional

During the next several weeks, Drury Athletics will reveal the Drury Dozen – over favorite 12 moments from the 2018-19 sports season. The list was voted on by members of the Drury University athletics staff and others that covered DU Athletics.

The list on this countdown does not reflect the most significant moments from the year, although the magnitude of the game or event certainly played a part in our decision.

Ultimately, these were our favorite moments from the previous year and the ones that we will likely always associate with the 2018-19 Drury sports season.

#7 – Drury baseball bounces back for deep run in NCAA Regional tournament

Drury's run in the NCAA Midwest Regional was impressive considering how their tournament started.

In the opening round, the Panthers trailed host Illinois Springfield throughout until a late rally pulled them even at 4-4 in the eighth. Drury owned all the momentum and was one out away from forcing extra innings when a base hit kept the Prairie Stars alive, then a dropped fly ball allowed the winning run to score sending UIS into the winner's bracket.

At the time, it seemed like a devastating loss, but the Panthers stayed alive through two elimination games getting late-inning heroics to edge Quincy 7-5, then they knocked out Wayne State in a 15-7 route.

Drury would then fall to Illinois Springfield but showed resilience in rallying to survive into the third day of the tournament. And outfielder Clayton Engel, whose dropped fly ball in the opening round helped Illinois Springfield pick up the win, responded by going 7 for 13 at the plate with two home runs, and seven runs batted in during the next three games of the tournament.
