Drury Dozen- the top 12 moment's of '21-22: #9 - DU women's swimming wins GLVC championship

7/14/2022 3:19:00 PM

The Drury Dozen is an annual list of our favorite moments of the year from Drury Athletics. The list is not necessarily the most significant events but the special games and moments we'll always associate with 2021-22.

We'll provide honorable mention selections later in the countdown, but, for now, here is our fourth entry from 2021-22:

#9 – DU women's swimming wins GLVC title

Feb. 13, 2022 – Elkhart, Ind.
The Drury swimming & diving program has been a powerhouse for decades, but in the brief history of the sport in the GLVC, the battle for the league crown has grown more intense each year.

On Feb. 13, the Drury women's team won the conference championship for the fifth time in six years, and, even though they led wire-to-wire, the title would be won by the closest margin in the league history. The competitiveness should not have been a surprise as, going into the GLVC Championships, three conference teams were ranked in the top 10 in NCAA-II with Indianapolis ranked number two, the Panthers were third, and Lindenwood was ranked seventh.

Drury emerged, though, with 1878.5 points on the final night, just 5.5 more than runner-up Indianapolis.

Allison Weber swept the distance events and was the 2022 GLVC Swimmer of the Year as she took the conference title in the 1650 Free, the 1000 Free, and the 500 Free. Rafaela Raurich won GLVC Freshman of the Year honors following the meet. Raurich won the 100 Fly and the 200 Fly, and she was on Drury's winning 800 Free Relay team. She also earned second-place finishes in the 200 Free, and on DU's 400 Medley Relay team.
