Drury Dozen- the top 12 moment's of '21-22: #4 - DU women's soccer wins the GLVC Championship

7/27/2022 5:02:00 PM

The Drury Dozen is an annual list of our favorite moments of the year from Drury Athletics. The list is not necessarily the most significant events but the special games and moments we will always associate with 2021-22.

We'll provide honorable mention selections later in the countdown, but, for now, here is our ninth entry from 2021-22:

#4- Drury women's soccer wins GLVC title

Nov. 15, 2021 – Springfield, Mo.
It was the best Cinderella story in the GLVC last year – Drury women's soccer, a program that hadn't qualified for the league tournament since 2015 and had gone winless in 2018, emerged as the conference champion.

The Panthers went 10-3-1 in the conference regular season and earned the league's number two seed in the postseason tournament. After a 2-0 win over Lewis in the quarterfinals, Drury converted a penalty kick in overtime to get past Missouri S&T in the semi's.

Hosting the GLVC title game, the Panthers scored in each half against Southern Indiana to complete their championship run. Ava Scott scored her first goal of the season midway through the first half, then the GLVC Offensive Player of the Year, Elsa Gonzalez, put the game away with a goal in the 71st minute.

While Drury Athletics has seen its share of championships, few will ever be as sweet as the Cinderella story of the women's soccer program in 2021.
