Drury University Athletics

A.L. Weiser coached at Springfield's Senior High School before coming to Drury in the fall of 1927. At Drury he was a teacher and head coach for several sports, but received most of his acclaim as the Panthers head basketball coach. His teams captured the MCAU conference title three years in a row (1936, 1937, 1938) and qualified for the NAIA national tournament in 1938, 1946 and 1958, He was elected to the Helms Hall of Fame and received the NAIA Award of Merit. In 1991 he was inducted into the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce Sports Hall of Fame. In 1971 the Board of Trustees voted to rename the college gymnasium in his honor.
