Chris Maender is the tenth Drury male swimmer/diver to be inducted into the Drury Sports Hall of Fame. Chris had a distinguished college athletic and academic career. He came to Drury in the fall of 1995 and during his four-year Drury career he helped the Drury men's program to a pair of third place finishes and a pair of second place finishes at the NCAA-II national swimming/diving championships. An individual medley/backstroke specialist, Chris was a two-time national champion in the 400-yard IM and was a big scorer at all four NCAA-II national championships in which he competed during his Panther career. An 18-time NCAA-II All-American, Chris was also a four-time NCAA-II Academic All-American. A biology/chemistry major, Chris never received a grade lower than "A" while at Drury and graduated with honors from Drury on May 10, 1998. A NCAA Walter Byers Scholarship finalist, Chris immediately entered St. Louis University medical school where he again graduated with honors. He is now an orthopedic surgery resident at Southern Illinois University hospital in Springfield, Illinois.
