The second player in Drury College basketball history to earn All-American honors (NAIA Honorable Mention in 1960), Jim McKnight was a scoring machine during his four years at Drury. When he left the Drury campus, he was the #1 all-time leading scorer in the school's history with 1,473 career points. That total still has him ranked 14th on the school's all-time list. He was an all-conference pick as a sophomore, junior and senior and averaged right at 18 ppg over the three-year period. Although his teams never won a conference title, the 1958 Panthers qualified for the national tournament by taking two of three gmaes from William Jewell College in the playoffs. At the NAIA tournament, McKnight had 21 points in the first round game as the Panthers defeated the #6-seed, Lenior-Rhyne of North Carolina, 78-73. The Panthers lost in the second round to Texas Southern, a team that would eventually take third in the nation. However, in his final game McKnight scored 23 points. Jim graduated from Drury College on May 29, 1960.
