A native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, James was nicknamed the “Chariman of the Boards” by the Kansas City Star and is Drury's all-time leading rebounder with 1,096.  Bone was a member of the 1979 NAIA National Championship team that went 33-2. With 1,920 points he ranks fifth all-time on the Drury scoring list.  Bone's 297 rebounds in 1977-78 are the ninth most in a season and his 562 points in that season put him 18th all-time for a single season.  He was a three-
time first team All-District 16 selection and earned honorable mention honors is freshman season.  Bone was an honorable mention NAIA All-American in 1979 and 1980.
